Nationwide Finalists at the Bodyshop Awards 2017

August 21, 2017

The team at Nationwide are overjoyed to announce that we have five finalists in this year’s bodyshop Awards! These awards see nominations coming from every corner of the country and all sectors within the vehicle repair industry.

The finalists for the bodyshop Awards were announced on 8th August, with Nationwide seeing representation in a number of categories.

Nationwide have finalists in the Panel Apprentice of the Year Award, the bodyshop Training Award, the Panel Technician of the Year Awards, and not one, but two Nationwiders have been shortlisted to go head to head in the Paint Technician of the Year Award.

Nationwide's Technical Training and Professional Development Academy in Goole has been shortlisted in the bodyshop Training Award for the fourth year in a row.

The Training Award recognises excellence in training within the bodyshop industry and looks for those who are raising industry standards. Nationwide’s Technical Training and Professional Development Academy is IMI Accredited and offers bespoke training courses available to all team members across Nationwide! We pride ourselves on offering industry leading training led by award winning trainers.

Chris McGowan, Technical Training Manager, said: “We are delighted that we have been named as finalists at this year’s awards. We put a lot of effort into our training offerings as a group and the award submission hopefully reflects the investments we are making. It’s great to see the Training Team’s hard work being recognised through this nomination.”

In the Paint Technician of the Year Category, Nationwider Shaun Sandford, who won this accolade in 2007, will be joined by Glen Hall, from NCRC Thetford, both of whom are hoping to be named winner.

Glen’s Manager, Richard Read said: “We are absolutely delighted that Glen has been chosen for the Technician Awards 2017, he really is an asset to the team here at Thetford. We put Glen forward because his speed and quality is superb and that’s so important for us and the customer.”

Competing for the Panel Technician of the Year Award is weathered Nationwider William Honour. William, who works at Nationwide Gladwins, Luton, has been with Nationwide since 1991 and is extremely proud to have got this far in the competition, completing both the theory and practical test. He said: “I will be proud to represent Nationwide at the awards evening.”

William’s General Manager, James Cooper, said: “Bill making it through as a finalist in the bodyshop Panel Beater of the Year Awards 2017 is fantastic news and is well deserved real recognition of his consistent quality and hard work. He is a real credit to the business.”

As industry leaders, Nationwide are dedicated to fulfilling their responsibility to bringing through the next generation of talent in the industry. Our Apprenticeship Programme has produced Nationwide’s fourth finalist, Panel Apprentice, Ryan Sutherland. He has worked extremely hard over the course of his Apprenticeship and to have reached the final of the awards makes all his hard work worthwhile!

Ryan Joined Nationwide in 2015 as an Apprentice at NCRC Falkirk, now working at NCRC Edinburgh he is due to complete his course this year. To get this far in the competition Ryan has undergone several practical and theoretical challenges including a filler and metal finish repair task.

Speaking about the award nomination, Ryan said: “I feel like all my hard work is paying off. I have been supported well throughout it all and all the Nationwiders I have worked with have taught me the skills I needed to get to where I am today!”

Ryan has a very promising future with Nationwide, and says he is taking each year as it comes and is taking advantage of all opportunities Nationwide offer him.

Ryan’s General Manager, Jim Anderson, is understandably extremely proud of what Ryan has achieved. He said: “Ryan is hard working, uses his initiative and always gets his head down and gets on with the job in hand. He is a real asset to the team.”

All the finalists will attend the event at the Birmingham Metropole on 29th September to enjoy the evening and hopefully pick up an award!

Everyone at Nationwide are extremely proud of our finalists, as well as all those who entered! We wish you all the best of luck!
