Nationwide takes double Brands Hatch win as Cammish exerts his superiority

April 03, 2017

Nationwide Repairs got the 2017 Porsche Carrera Cup GB off to a winning start at a sun-drenched Brands Hatch with a double win.

The distinctive orange, blue and white car was once again driven by back-to-back Porsche champion Daniel Cammish who dominated proceedings. The weekend started with an incredibly close qualifying session in which Dan was able to secure pole position starts for both races. The margins however were minuscule with only 0.04 of a second separating Dan from the chasing pack.

The short 1.2 mile Kent circuit always produces close racing and race one was no exception with two safety car periods also closing up the field. Dan was able to control the race one, despite the relentless pressure from team mate Charlie Eastwood, to win the first round of the 2017 season. Race two was a slightly more straight-forward affair with Dan able to build a three-second gap over the 34 lap race. A safety car was also required late on in the race, neutralising Dan’s advantage but he was able to get a clear restart to take victory number two.

It’s a really good start to the year,” said Dan. “We sat back and let the track come to us on Saturday (in qualifying) and Charlie and I whacked it straight up there. In race one Charlie and I were a class above, it was a tough race but I had enough in the end. In race two I had a little bit left again, Charlie gave a good chase but it wasn’t enough this time. The title defence starts here!”

It wasn’t just on track that Nationwide made an impression however, the RaceHub gained plenty of attention as well. Over 600 Nationwiders and invited guests attended to witness Dan win and enjoy a day in the company of colleagues. Engaging with team and guests of Nationwide in a relaxed atmosphere is a key reason behind the RaceHub. It also allowed the People team to talk to the general public about recruitment and meet potential future members of the team. The opportunity to try and beat Dan’s time on the racing simulator was also a big draw as well as the chat with Dan around his race car.

“The meet and greet with Dan was a definite highlight of the day,” said Craig Chinn, Call Centre Manager - Nationwide Motorglass. “Having the chance to meet Dan and ask questions gave a really interesting insight into what goes on behind the scenes and for us to get access that you can’t ordinarily get. It was a really enjoyable day.”

The next two rounds of the Carrera Cup will be held at Donnington Park in Leicestershire on the 15th & 16th April. Visit for more information.
