Nationwide - raised £48k in 2015 for Mission Motorsport and announced Macmillan Cancer Support as 2016 charity partner
Supporting our Service people
Nationwide’s chosen Charity for 2015 was Mission Motorsport and we raised a massive £48,158.21 - a fantastic achievement of outstanding team spirit in supporting a great cause.
Mission Motorsport is a Charity whose aim is to aid in the recovery and rehabilitation of those affected by military operations, by providing opportunities through motorsport.
Supporting Mission Motorsport and to be their Charity Partner was a natural choice for Nationwide; the combination of a passion for racing and a desire to support our service people during difficult times.
What have we done?
Throughout the year, our team Nationwiders have organised an unbelievable number of fundraising events across all our bodyshops and offices in the UK, with a huge level of participation.
We engaged with the local community and published articles, invited the Great British Bake-Off celebrity, Paul Hollywood, to judge a Bake-off in Formby; we worked with local radio on the promotion of fundraising events in Cambridge and local supermarkets and businesses donated gifts for a Halloween-themed fun day in Northwich; we worked in partnership with local Sports Clubs in Norwich in supporting a fundraising karting event - and many more creative activities.
Zoë Howard, Project Manager for the Charity Partnership at Nationwide, said:
‘’The team spirit at Nationwide is amazing! There are so many eager and willing people, who are always prepared to work together and go the extra mile to help others. They showed real commitment and enthusiasm for fundraising and many sites, even after reaching their target of £1,000, were so hooked on the fundraising bug that they continued their efforts, raising some huge amounts in the process.’’
Macmillan for 2016
This year, we asked our team to vote for a Charity of their choice and it was a close call between DiabetesUK, Mission Motorsport, Together For Short Lives and Macmillan, with the final choice being Macmillan Cancer Support.
We ask all our sites to raise £1,000 each and while our teams show a competitive spirit, they are also working together on new fund raising ideas. We are on track with the commitment shown so far to raise significant funds again this year.
Michael Wilmshurst, the Nationwide CEO is proud on his team:
‘’We are very proud of our fund raising efforts and delighted to be able to help the ones who need it the most. Our armed forces don’t get to choose which conflict they serve in and do it on our behalf, sometimes at terrible cost to themselves; they deserve our support. For 2016 the team have chosen Macmillan and although most of us are fortunate enough not to know someone who has been affected by cancer, I am sure that we will collaboratively continue raising a significant amount for this important Charity. We can proudly state our team know how to work together and support each other in delivering results!’’
Macmillan’s research helps us all to understand and improve the quality of life for people affected by cancer.
