Nationwide Raise £78,000 for Macmillan
2016 saw Nationwide partner with the phenomenal Macmillan Cancer Support Charity, and what year it was with the teams at Nationwide raising a life changing £78,062.69.
Following the collective decision made by Nationwiders to partner with Macmillan at the beginning of last year, teams and individuals alike have demonstrated astonishing commitment, by smashing through their self-set targets in many wonderful different, challenging and sometimes crazy ways.
This year we saw team spirit and passion demonstrated constantly throughout the year, with people making time to get involved in raising money with everything from delicious cakes sales, to joining the world’s biggest coffee morning, to testing their stamina and strength in the challenging mountains, of brave bungee jumping and throwing themselves out of aeroplanes at a terrifying 14,000 feet.
Michael Wilmshurst, Nationwide’s CEO is rightly proud of the Nationwide team:
‘’Nationwiders are a very focused team and once they decide to do something, inevitably do. We were all pleased to support Macmillan as our 2016 charity and are delighted with the outcome. It’s a pleasure to work alongside such generous and community minded colleagues.’’
Nationwide enjoyed the opportunity alongside many of those directly involved in the fundraising to present the total raised to Steven Goodrick, the fundraising manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, at the Nationwide annual conference on 10th March 2017.
Steven Goodrick was delighted and explained how partnerships like the one with Nationwide are critical in helping Macmillan continue all the great work that they do supporting people in their time of need.
‘’Macmillan relies on individuals and companies to raise vital funds to support the ever-growing number of people living with cancer across the UK. Nationwide employees have raised an incredible sum of money and we can’t thank you all enough. This fantastic amount will help us fund more Macmillan Nurses, making a huge difference to people’s lives. Macmillan Nurses are specially trained to support people from the time they hear they have cancer, during their treatment, and for as long as they need our help. This support can be medical, emotional, practical or through signposting patients and their families to other Macmillan support such as financial help and advice. Your support really has made a difference.”
2017 will undoubtedly bring many more creative and challenging ways for us teams at Nationwide to raise money for yet another worthy cause, the exciting details of which will be announced very soon.
